FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Madison County Sheriff's Department's staff has been cut in half after three firings and a resignation, but the sheriff said residents have no cause for alarm about reduced protection.
The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Mo., reported that Madison County Sheriff Bobby Spain fired three deputies for questioning his authority, and a fourth quit on her own.
The sheriff said the county remains safe. Members of the Fredericktown Police Department are commissioned to work in the county if needed. Spain said he has interviews set up for potential replacements.
