BENTON -- This year's Benton Neighbor Day Celebration kicks off Aug. 30 with two days of activities. The celebration is in its 23rd year.
The midway opens at 5 p.m., with registration available for free prizes. At 7 p.m. there will be a Little Mr. and Miss Neighbor Day contest, followed by the Neighbor Day Queen contest at 8:30 p.m. Fifteen area girls will compete for the crown.
At 8 p.m., there will be musical entertainment by "Welter Four," followed by a dance at the community building featuring the Eddie Martin Sound System.
Events on Aug. 31 begin at 10:30 a.m. with a parade, followed by an antique car show at 11:30 a.m. A horseshoe tournament will be held at 1 p.m.
The afternoon will also include two shows by skydiver Dwight Gates. The shows will be at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Other events that day include a greased pole climb, talent show and greased pig chase.
At 7 p.m., there will be live entertainment by "One Night Stand," and a dance at the community building featuring "Charlie's Music Revue."
The two-day event will also include judging of 4-H exhibits.
Benton Neighbor Days is sponsored each year by the Benton Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds fund a scholarship and are contributed to various community projects.
