Days of Caring, a United Way event to encourage local volunteerism, kicked off a week of projects ranging from yardwork to paperwork, beginning Sept. 20. More than 50 people helped complete more than 15 projects, for more than 150 hours of volunteer time.

Volunteers helped at United Way-funded agencies serving hot meals and delivering them to seniors, painting hallways at the American Red Cross and spending time with youths to further their self-esteem. Playing to foster a positive self-image for children included engaging in dodge ball with youths at the Boys and Girls Club.
