NEVADA, Mo. -- A 17-year-old boy was being held on $2 million bond Monday night in the stabbing deaths of two other teens in southwest Missouri.
Nevada police chief Gary Herstein said 14-year-old Kylie M. Leyva and 18-year-old Anne E. Reed were found stabbed Sunday evening in a home where Reed lived. Both were pronounced dead at hospitals in Joplin.
Herstein said Garrett Matthew Mason was taken into custody Sunday night and arrested Monday on a warrant charging him with two counts each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
The Joplin Globe reported that Mason lived on the same street where the killings took place.
Calls to the Vernon County prosecutor's office were unanswered on Memorial Day. It was not known if Mason had a lawyer or when he would appear in court.
