Thirteen Southern Illinois residents were injured in a car accident Friday morning on Highway 177 eight miles north of Cape Girardeau, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The people received minor injuries and were all transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. The accident happened when another vehicle hit the Ford van they were riding in at 6:33 a.m., striking the van's outside rearview mirror. The other vehicle left the scene.

No other details of the accident were available, and calls to the patrol's Troop E public information officer weren't returned Friday.
