Antique and classic autos, including the Cape Girardeau Vocational School's creation using the front ends of two 1955 Fords, were used as shuttle buses for guests at Sunday's bed and breakfast tour.

"I saw that car and I just had to ride in it," said Pacquita Leach, a senior at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in social work. Leach was accompanying Dr. and Mrs. Paul Keys on the tour of Annie Laurie's Cottage, Bellevue Bed and Breakfast and Neumeyer's Bed and Breakfast.

Tom Neumeyer of Neumeyer's Bed and Breakfast was overwhelmed with the turnout. "We planned on about 20 people," he said. The number was closer to 100, said Marsha Toll of the Bellevue Bed and Breakfast. "We were able to donate $400 to the historical society," she said.

Plans are already being made to turn the tour into an annual event.

The purpose of the tour wasn't just a promotion of the bed and breakfast establishments.

"People in the area were able to see the homes and learn a little bit of the history behind them," said Toll.

Neumeyer of the Capaha Antique Car Club was instrumental in getting the vehicles for Sunday's tour.
