Students gathered for an Ash Wednesday service Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau. “It’s customary on Ash Wednesday for we, as Catholics, to receive ashes as you know kind of symbolic of our sinfulness and our need for repentance,” Sarah Strohmeyer, director of campus ministry at Notre Dame Regional High School, said. She said Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent period before Easter.
