Fresh snow Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 covers the description of a mural on the Mississippi River Tales mural on the floodwall in downtown Cape Girardeau. The panel depicts the winter of 1918 when the river was frozen for several weeks. The river was wider and slower in the early 1900s than it is today. Some people actually walked across the frozen surface of the river, and others drove a team and wagon or an automobile across it.
