Speak Out: Federal Employees owe 3.6 billion dollars in back taxes

Posted by swampeastmissouri on Tue, Mar 12, 2013, at 9:53 AM:

It was released yesterday by the IRS that Federal Emloyees owe nearly 3.6 billion dollars in back taxes. How did this happen? and why was this allowed to happen? Most State governments require all State employees to pay all back taxes owed on the State level or they do not get to keep there jobs, the same should be for the Federal Employees as well. Rep Paul Ryan introduced a bill in the House and it was passed and sent over to the Senate where it was ignored by the Senate leadership and the bill died. This bill required all Federal Employees to pay there taxes are be subject to dismissal. People in the private sector are required to pay taxes and if they do not there feet are held to the fire by the IRS.

  • Having never seen a Federal Paycheck, not sure if they have taxes withheld from their pay as ordinary Americans do, or being the privileged class they are, is it left strictly to their honesty and integrity to report and pay?

Assuming they do have to submit to Payroll Deductions like everyone else.... where does the extra money they are not paying taxes on come from? Under the table payoffs perhaps?

  • Wheels they do have the same deductions as we do. Also, these employees make far more in salary than what a average person in the private sector make. That is mainly why they are backed up on taxes apparently they do not have enough deductions being witheld and a lot of these people live in and around the DC area where the life style is high rolling to say the least and the cost of living is extremely high. The 2012 stats has not been released yet but it will more then likely be higher than the 2011 stats.Congress needs to enact a law requiring all Federal Employees must pay there taxes or they will lose there jobs, just like the majority of the States have in place. We have to comply or else so should they. Bottomline the whole tax code needs to be overhauled and go to one flat tax rate where everyone pays the same rate regardless whether your rich, middle class or Poor and we rid this problem. The Tax Code is a complete wreck just like this up-coming Obamacare is which is going to bite every single one of us right square in the butt people have got to wake up and come to there senses.

  • A little off topic but not by much:

    If you're interested:

Edward "Ed" Mezvinsky born January 17, 1937, is a former Democratic congressman.

As a Democrat, he represented Iowa 's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives for two terms, from 1973 to 1977.

He sat on the House Judiciary Committee that decided the fate of Richard Nixon. He and the Clinton's were very politically intertwined for years.

In March 2001, Mezvinsky was indicted and later pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 charges of bank fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud.

He was sentenced to 80 months in (Federal) prison.

Ed Mezvinsky embezzled more than $10 million dollars from people via both a ponzi scheme and the notorious Nigerian e-mail scams.

After serving five years in federal prison, he was released in April 2008. He remained on federal probation through 2011,

and still owes $9.4 millionin restitution to his victims.

So who is he? He's Chelsea Clinton's father-in law.

  • Seems like I've heard of this same disscretion before reported as far back as the beginning of the Clinton administration. Could it be a natural expectation to think one is owed a discount from the company store?

Dab, If that's true it wouldn't surprise me. The Clinton's have been known to have shady aquaintences as many of our polititions do.

Clinton especially was in association with a lot that got the short end of the stick. Strange to me why so many government appointees and staff members tend to give up their scruples to defend and support the boss in a polititcal job.
