Speak Out: 8/1/17

Sullivan column

Kudos to Sullivan for his comment on the emperor's new clothes. At the same time, is it a good idea to put anything in the center of a round-about?

Airport party

See where someone posted pictures of a birthday party at airport. Who do you contact to have a private party there? It was awesome with the planes in the background.

Repeal

Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan and other Republican officials constantly talk about keeping their promise to the American people to repeal and replace Obamacare, and repeated that phrase over and over again while bemoaning the fact that the effort to do so had failed. Recent polls show that only approximately 30 percent of those polled want an outright repeal -- and -- replace bill to become law. Given that fact, one can only assume that McConnell and Ryan and their compatriots think that, of all the two-legged citizens walking about in this country, only 30 percent can be considered as "American" people.

Ross column

The seemingly gushy enthusiasm displayed by Southeast Missourian Christian columnist Adrienne Ross over the appointment of Anthony "The Mooch" Scaramucci as White House communications director has surely been tempered after he gave the most vulgar public interview in the history of journalism. To put it in perspective, he trumped Trump. As a result, The Mooch's days may be numbered.

No clothes?

Marcel Duchamp's famous 1917 piece, Fountain, is a porcelain urinal. It is considered a classic work of art by many, a product or offshoot of the Dada school of art. If this priceless piece was displayed in the middle of one of Cape's roundabouts, I have little doubt that Joe Sullivan would refuse to pass judgment on it, on the basis that he has no understanding of art. He would denounce it in no uncertain terms. I think the sculptures by the Pierce brothers have Post-modernist appeal and are in large part designed to move our ultra-conservative community, kicking and screaming, in a more progressive direction. When the mayor exclaimed, "I love it!" in reference to the latest sculpture, I think Joe Sullivan would really like to say (but exercises admirable self-restraint), "The emperor is wearing no clothes!"

Tailor Institute

We're not that naive. Please don't try and convince us that funding for the Tailor Institute was an oversight.

  • Ross column...the "Mooch" is gone , he only lasted 10 days too . The best part , Trump's chief of staff, Reince Priebus, and spokesman, Sean Spicer, both left their posts after the "Mooch"s appointment . So , don't miss "The Apprentice" , this Sunday on NBC at 8pm .

Sullivan column/No clothes?...if only Cape's priorities where higher then statues .

Repeal...the only difference between a Democrat and a Republican is the spelling . There is no such thing as "Obamacare" , it's the PPACA , or short for Socialism .

Sullivan column: Who is this Sullivan and why do I care what he has to say. The round-about near the River Campus is another waste of time and money that would have been a good place to erect a Confederate Statue.

Airport party: Try calling the airport management unless you are the management calling in for some free advertisement.

Repeal: The other 70% polled are getting their insurance free or mostly free so why would they want to change.

Ross column: Little late with this comment - the Mooch is out with the addition of the new Chief of Staff Kelly. Ms. Ross was fooled like the majority of us by Mooch's colorful language - even if it was off the record there is still no need for that kind of language. BTW, are you anti-Christian.

No clothes: Try putting that porcelain urinal in a round-about and some would use it relieve themselves in it.

Tailor Institute: Is this comment related to the "No Clothes" comment?

And that is the way it should be....Tuesday August 1, 2017.

Regards the PPACA and it's pet name of Obamacare.

I feel Obama's name should be associated with that Democratic failure long after history has forgotten the "Ride of Paul Revere". It should be the centerpiece of his legacy. What can be accomplished by a racist, narcissistic, failure and his blind followers.

  • Scaramucci incorrectly listed as dead in Harvard Law alumni directory

By Brandon Carter - 07/31/17 04:04 PM EDT

Scaramucci, who was suddenly removed from his new post as White House communications director Monday just 10 days after taking the position, reportedly has an asterisk next to his name in the new directory mailed to alumni this week. The asterisk indicates that he passed away since the last directory was published in 2011.

Just my opinion , Obama has laid the foundation for every American to receive some type of Medicaid by Federal Law and every American must participate whether they want to or not . I see no reason for individual State lines , boundaries , or Laws , just one huge Federal State with one huge Federal Police , etc , etc ...

The "Fundamental Change" the dude promised isn't the Promised Land so many are lounging in now . Some of life's hardest lessons are self taught . It's not a question but a lesson learned in time . It will take years for this Nation to recover if it does at all ...

Since the health care program is R.I.P., we should call the system by the founder's name - Obamacare so history will record it as the failed attempt of Socialism.

    Rick,

Once a new class of freebies is created to buy the love of the voters it is hard to take away. It becomes the norm. Our Country is being destroyed in this manner by the very people we sent to Washington to protect it.

I am beginning to wonder if the only chance our country has to recover from the Age of Dependancie that has become the way of life for a near majority of our citizens will be a complete crash. Only then may people begin to understand what we have lost.

Yes on the "Do not feed the bears".

About 90% of what government is doing today has no place in the Country our Founder's had envisioned for us.

This whole health care mess is not the business of government.

A page of Thou Shalts and Thou Shalt Nots from the government as guidelines to protect the citizens and let the free market work.

A review of the entire so called "Entitlement" alphabet soup should be up for review.

Do a review of every man woman and child on the disabled list, cull out the phonies, respect the rest and we go back where we started..... if you don't work you don't eat. Truly disabled are exceptions to that rule.

Only then can America once again respect iself.

Yes and absolutely a factual one Semo471.

I think most people when we were growing up never even thought about a life of living on Welfare. Today, I wonder what the true percentage of people who give making Welfare a career really is.

    Can I try ?

The radio , then TV , computer , cell phone , and social media were created because People are afraid of their own thoughts . Whoever controls these things controls the Peoples , without them , what would the People do ?

The White House super star Mr.Bo-jangles Obama started the merry go round Trump Trauma the USA lives under today . Now it's a Twitter-in-Chief , thnx to a Mr.Bo-jangles-in-Chief . All of those late night TV shows Mr.Bo-jangles toured while he was the President -- the Tonight Show , Jon Stewart , ad nausea...

...and , do the Obamas have to use "Obamacare" like all Americans or do they get the very best of benefits the American tax payers can buy? Does Obama still travel the USA "fighting for rights of the poor" or is he a multi-millionaire like any other ex-politician? Did he take his followers for chumps or did he not . If Socialism is your game , welcome to the USA . Sell your Spirit for a handful of wind . It's the freakin' Land of Oz now , who is believing what anymore ? "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain ."

Just thought I'd try , put my 2 cents worth in when I don't have a penny for my thoughts...

Nice try, but no cigar. Clearly there's way too much stumbling over excessive Obama obsessiveness.

And blaming President Trump on President Obama is just absurd.

Lack of continuity is a nice try too .

Go back to square one , where it is depends on where you start . The health care insurance of the USA was bad . Obama , his minions , added their salt and pepper to it , made it a mandated Federal Law , and now it's a disaster . Those who backed the whole mess the whole time don't even have the stones to say , "hey , it's a mess , we were wrong." , they still ride down hill .

So , as they say , "pass it , let's find out what it's all about ." Don't change it now , let's find out what it's all about . How many more grand lies will come out ? How much more crap will the Peoples have to eat before they admit what happened .

Trump is no better then Obama , no doubt . But , the Peoples seen what was going on with Obama , they seen anything was possible . Why do you think Clinton lost ? It wasn't because Trump won .

so ...thnx Obama voters , nice try . What comes next is all on you , it's running down your chin .

-- Posted by Rick Scaggs on Wed, Aug 2, 2017, at 12:22 PM
  • Quite honestly , there are politicians still trying to promote their own political careers instead of doing what's right by the Peoples . They saw how it worked for Obama . The watch how it's being done with Trump .

  • Living on entitlements. One persons question:

    ________________________________

    Dear Sir,

I have a very complicated benefits question.

Many years ago, I married a widow out of love who had an 18 year old daughter.

After the wedding, my father, a widower, came to visit a number of

times, and he fell in love with my step daughter.

My father eventually married her without my authorization.

As a result my step-daughter became my step mother and my father

    became my son in law.

My father's wife (also my step daughter) and my step-mother, gave

birth to a son who is my grandchild because I am the husband of my

    step daughter's mother.

This boy is also my brother, as the son of my father.

As you can see, my wife became a grandmother, because she is the

    mother of my father's wife.

Therefore it appears that I am also my wife's grandchild.

A short time after these events, my wife gave birth to a son, who

became my father's brother-in-law, the step-son of my father's wife,

    and my uncle.

My son is also my step mother’s brother, and through my step-mother,

my wife has become a grandmother and I have become my own grandfather.

In light of the above mentioned, I would like to know the following:

Does my son, who is also my uncle, my father's son-in-law and my step

mother's brother fulfill the requirements for receiving childcare

    benefits?

    Sincerely yours,

    Mohammed Washington
