Alma Schrader Elementary School's fourth-grade character council held a bake sale fundraiser Feb. 7 with all money raised going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The students spent two months organizing the bake sale. The principal, Mrs. Orr, and school counselor, Mrs. Unnerstall, backed the incentive and allowed them to spend their recesses working on the project. They made posters and sent letters home asking parents to help provide baked goods. Grandmothers and aunts were called on to help with the baking. Decorations were purchased, and the team assigned duties. Parents, guardians and friends donated plenty of baked goods and decorated them for the Valentine theme. The students named the project "Lots 'a Love Bakesale." Their efforts generated over $380.
The youths from Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel presented a check for $250 to the Hope Children's Home in Jackson. After a February garage sale, the youth decided to donate $250 to a local charity that supports children. Hope Children's Home was selected and a check presented by Good Shepherd's youths.
