Area students volunteer at regional college

Culver-Stockton College students participated in the fifth annual Extreme Dome Makeover, volunteering their services to fix up 13 different sites in Canton, Mo. More than 400 volunteers worked at both public locations and private residences. Area students who participated in the all-day community service event included Margaret Pitt of Jackson; Jennifer Piekert of Marble Hill, Mo.; Jaylen Porter of Oran, Mo.; and Giovanni Walker, Harley Porter and Katherine Johnson of Sikeston, Mo. Culver-Stockton College is in Canton.

Parker accepts position at Brookings Institution

Adam Parker, son of Michael and Tiffany Parker of Cape Girardeau, has accepted a position at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. He will serve as a research assistant with the Center for Universal Education. Parker, a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a master's degree from the University of Texas Johnson School of Public Policy.

Cape student on Lipscomb honor roll

Cape Girardeau student Josh Robert has been placed on the honor roll at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. Robert is a marketing major. At the end of each semester, students who make perfect grades for the semester while taking at least 12 credit hours are named to the Provost's List. Students who earn a grade average of 3.5 to 3.99 are named to the honor roll.

Oak Ridge valedictorian one of Heartland's Best

Ethan Seyer, valedictorian of the class of 2013 of Oak Ridge High School, was honored as one of KFVS12's Heartland's Best at a banquet ceremony at Southeast Missouri State University. Seyer was one of nearly 100 area valedictorians from four states who gathered in the University Center Ballroom for the ceremony.

Cavanah named to college soccer team

Keagan Cavanah from Jackson has been named to the Westminster College Blue Jays men's soccer team. Cavanah, a Westminster freshman, will be playing as a forward during the 2013 season. Cavanah graduated from Jackson High School in 2013. Westminster College is in Fulton, Mo.
