Mary E. Al-Sayed of Cape Girardeau graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English and Italian studies during Boston University's graduation exercises in May.

Tucker named to dean's list

Stacey R. Tucker of Benton, Mo., was named to the 2013 spring semester dean's list at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Students named to the list must have earned a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. Tucker is an accounting major.

Garner receives regents' scholarship

Wesley Garner, a 2013 graduate of Advance High School in Advance, Mo., has received a regents' scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2013-2014 academic year. Garner is the son of Shannon and Sara Garner of Advance.

Art students take honors in Paducah

The work of three local art students was recognized as among the best at the Women's Club of Paducah, Ky. Ellen Wang won first place in the high school category with Ana Wahlers taking third place, and Caleb Burgard won first and second place in the K-2 category.
