honors/achievements

* Aaron Michael Lies of Jackson, son of Daniel and Jalon Lies; Luke Timothy Phillips of Cape Girardeau, son of Mark and Kellie Phillips; and Devan Matthew Colby Smith of Patton, Mo., son of Netasha and David Loyd, participated in the American Legion Boys State of Missouri in June at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.

* Rebecca Volkerding of Jackson attended Modern Woodmen of America's Merit Club Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. Volkerding has been a youth service club leader for two years and completed a variety of volunteerism, education and patriotic projects.

* Asia Marie Thomas of Cape Girardeau accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Thomas is a student at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Membership is by invitation only and based on grade-point average and class standing.
