Reed Dickson and Samartha Shrestha, students at Cape Girardeau Central High School, attended the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Leadership in Practice program in June at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. They joined more than 100 high school students in learning skills to become an effective leader in their schools and communities. The students were challenged to use leadership skills in activities that simulated real-life situations such as the development of business plans for a new product or service. Participants were encouraged to set goals for themselves for their development as leaders.

Josh Friedrich

Josh Friedrich, a senior at Eagle Ridge Christian School, participated in the American Legion Boys State of Missouri in June at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Friedrich was selected based on his leadership, citizenship, academics and character during his junior year at Eagle Ridge. Friedrich, son of Allen and Cindy Friedrich, was sponsored by Seabee Veterans of America Island XS.

Jackson students attend FBLA conference

Four Jackson High School students -- Logan Bader, Allison Gribler, Ian Roberts and Melissa Stephens -- attended the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in June. At the conference, Bader and Stephens competed in the Partnership With Business project while Gribler and Roberts competed in the American Enterprise Project. Gribler and Roberts also received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence and brought home a second-place award. A fifth Jackson student, Paxton Lemmons, qualified for the conference but was unable to attend.
