Scholarships

* Heather Cline of Cape Girardeau has been awarded the General Education Degree Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2011-2012 academic year.

* Samantha Kinzel of Cape Girardeau has been awarded the General Education Degree Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2011-2012 academic year.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

* Seth Hudson of Cape Girardeau earned his doctor of chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, graduating with the Health Center Consultant Award.

* Cory Lee Bunger, a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, recently attended the 72nd session of the American Legion Boys State of Missouri at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

* Adam Parker of Cape Girardeau was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society in May and graduated summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland on May 15 with honors in both political science and economics. He was awarded the H.W. Knieser Prize in Economics and the 2011 Outstanding Senior Capstone Project.

* Joanna Lynn Fay of Jackson recently earned a bachelor's degree in architecture degree from Drury University in Springfield, Mo.

* American Legion Post 158 selected Jackson High School Music Students for the school year of 2010-2011. Each selected student receives a $100 savings bond. Those recognized are Caden Gordon, Jason Cox, Austin Koenig, Jonathan Deneke, Brett Nagel, Haley Rothensberger, Samantha Hadden, Allison Penzel and Ann Strickert.

* Jackson High School students recently attended the American Legion Boys State of Missouri on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Those attending were Nathan Fridley, Barry DeCoursey, Riley Tailbut, Drew Hosp, Drew Garvey, Caleb Newcomer and Austin Baker. The American Legion program employs the "learn by doing" method of teaching the basic principles of democracy. While there the Jackson students experienced a functional understanding of the local and state government.

* Mary E. Al-Sayed of Cape Girardeau has recently been named to the dean's list at Boston University for the 2011 spring semester.

* Ryan Willen of Cape Girardeau has recently been named to the dean's list at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., for the 2011 spring semester.

* Carisa Nicole Barnhill of Cape Girardeau received her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences on May 14 in Kansas City. Dr. Barnhill will complete postdoctoral training in internal medicine at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis.
