Scholarships
The following students received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2010-2011 school year:
* Camden Criddle of Cape Girardeau received a Governor's Scholarship, the most prestigious academic honor awarded to beginning freshmen.
* Whittney Lukefahr of Leopold, Mo., received a President's Scholarship.
Honors, achievements
* Students at Cape Girardeau Central High School ended their season with a record of 35-6 at the state academic competition. A team from Notre Dame Regional High School also advanced to the state competition in Columbia, Mo. The top eight teams in each class advance to the state tournament, which is sponsored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Central's Josh Wen made the all-state team. Central's team, known as the Central Intelligence Agency, will compete in Chicago later this month. The team will go up against schools from across the country at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments contest.
* Nicole Poythress Waters received the Distinguished Thesis Award at University of Missouri Graduate School Awards Reception. A 2002 graduate of Jackson High School, she is a doctoral fellow at the University of Missouri in Columbia studying pathobiology and researching osteoarthritis.
* Rhett Simmons, Dominic Hooper, Shelby Rhymer and Joseph Beggs, students at St. Joseph School, competed in the state Junior Academy of Science competition at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. Simmons placed second in physics, Hooper placed second in engineering, Rhymer placed second in medicine and health, and Beggs placed first in chemistry.
The following students received awards during the Student Life and Leadership ceremony at Southeast:
* Caleb Tankersley of Jackson received the Provost Award. The award is given to one student from each college who is nominated by faculty and staff.
* Tempest Southall of Cape Girardeau received the Contributor Award for contributing to university life.
* Sh'Nita Mitchell of Cape Girardeau, received the Student Life Achievement Recognition Award for building community at the university.
