Students from Central Middle School in Cape Girardeau competed in a student math competition conducted by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics on April 12. On the concept test for fifth-graders, Luke Kinder placed fourth, and Alex Gentle placed 9th; for sixth grade, Sydney Messerli placed 2nd and Vikas Rudrappa placed 5th. On the problem-solving test for fifth-graders, Luke Kinder placed 2nd; for sixth grade, Aaron Mehner placed 2nd, Vikas Rudrappa placed 3rd and Sydney Messerli placed 5th. The sixth-grade competition team placed first. Members are: Vikas Rudrappa, Sydney Messerli, Jacob Boerboom, Aaron Mehner, Alex Mehner and Alex Ogle. Students who placed first through third will advance to a state competition April 26 at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
A group of students from Central Junior High in Cape Girardeau won first place in their division at a statewide National History Day contest April 12 in Columbia, Mo. Kristyn Sanders, Ellie Kidd, Faith Reynolds and Lizzie Nussbaum won for their presentation of "Women of the Civil War." Their teacher is Emily Goode. The students will advance to a national contest in June in Maryland.
Students from the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center competed at the Missouri SkillsUSA Leadership & Skills Conference on April 3 through 5 at Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo. Winners are: Video Product Development, post-secondary: Zack Harris and Ron Pokracki, first, Sam Penny and Ashley Rhodes, second; secondary: Niki Cofield and Daniel Lies, first, Justin Aden and Kiersten Petitt, second; Residential Wiring, post-secondary: Jeff Rigdon, third; Residential Wiring Technical Information, post-secondary: Jeff Rigdon, second; Audio Production, secondary: Lance McWilson and James Chronister, first. First-place winners will attend the National SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City in June.
Kelly FCCLA members attended a state leadership conference March 30 through April 1 in Columbia, Mo. Kathryn Mainord and Paige Rampley won silver in the Chapter Service Project division for their project titled Trick 'R Treat So Others Can Eat. Eliza Phelps and Johnna Carter won gold in the Focus on Children junior division. Audrey Camren placed second in the FCCLA Knowledge event.
Maddie Rupke of Jackson High School was the second-place winner of the FFA Equine Science Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 80th Missouri FFA Convention.
