* The Cape Kiwanis Club awarded 20 local high school seniors each a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. Recipients are:

* The Ruth A. Buckhannon scholarship is an annual scholarship set up through the First Baptist Church of Chaffee will be awarded to a 2011 graduating senior of any public high school in Scott County who plans to become a registered nurse. The total amount of the scholarship is $4,000. This is the fifth year for the scholarship that Ruth A. Buckhannon's daughters set up through the First Baptist Church in memory of their mother. The 2011 applications and guidelines are available from Chaffee High School counselor Brandi Ritter at 573-887-3226. The deadline for completed applications is April 20.

* The Designing Women Foundation has announced the 2011-2012 Three Rivers Community College Designing Women Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship offered to a female student who attends or plans to attend Three Rivers College with a full-time course load. Applications are due Friday. Application forms do require a brief essay and tax information from the past two years. The forms are available at www.designingwomen.org or by calling Stacey Million, Designing Women Executive Director, at 573-429-8638, or by emailing her at designingwomenfd@gmail.com. The Designing Women Foundation is dedicated to the cultural and educational enrichment of youths and women.

Honors, Achievements

* Mary E. Al-Sayed of Cape Girardeau recently was named to the dean's list at Boston University for the fall semester.
