  • Rachel Ruopp of Cape Girardeau made the dean's list at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind., for the fall 2007 semester.
  • Diana Valleroy was named Educator of the Year 2008 by the American Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau. Valleroy has taught sixth grade in the Cape Girardeau School District since 1994. She was awarded a plaque and $350.

SCHOOL NEWS

  • Students are invited to submit artwork for the 2008 Congressional Art Contest. The winner will have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol through May 2009. Submissions are due March 31. Call 335-0101 for guidelines and entry forms. Local submissions will be displayed during the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's "First Friday" showing April 4 in Cape Girardeau.
  • Twelve choirs and 14 area bands will perform at a district high school music festival March 29 at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Soloists and small ensembles will perform April 5.
  • Scott City Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration from 8 to 11 a.m., noon to 3:30 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m. April 24. Parents should bring a photo ID and the child's immunization records, birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency and, if necessary, legal custody papers. Screenings will be May 1 or 2. Enrollment for summer school for kindergarten students will be available at the screening.
  • Cape Christian School has rescheduled its open house to 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
