Awards and achievements

Seven students of Keyboards & Kindermusik Conservatory -- a piano, keyboard and Kindermusik teaching studio in Cape Girardeau -- recently earned Gold Cup awards from the National Federation of Junior Music Clubs. To receive the award, students must compete a minimum of three years earning the top rating. A student can earn up to five of the awards. "I am very proud of all our students who work diligently toward the Junior Music Festival," said Janet Presson, director of the studio. "This is a major accomplishment for these students." Receiving their first Gold Cup awards were Parker Dobbs, Nicholas Gaeta, Trey James, Natalie Meyers and Katarina Wilson. Danielle Meyers received a second Gold Cup, and Anna Branson received a third Gold Cup. The studio, which began sending students to the Junior Music Festival in 1991, will host two free recital concerts in May at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the date to be announced.

President's list

Lessley Carlson Dennington of Cape Girardeau was named to the University of Alabama president's list for the fall 2013 semester. The list recognizes those who earn a 4.0 grade-point average on at least 12 credit hours. Dennington, the daughter of Don and Marilee Dennington, is majoring in management information systems.
