* The following local students were awarded scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2014-2015 academic year: Jacob Meadors of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. The son of Mark and Bethany Meadors of Cape Girardeau, he will be a 2014 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. Alyson Baker of Jackson was awarded the Residence Life Leadership Award. Baker is the daughter or Lin and Kelley Baker of Jackson and will be a 2014 graduate of Jackson High School. Stacy Green of Oak Ridge was awarded the Residence Life Leadership Award. Green will be a 2014 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Hattie Morrow of Jonesboro, Ill., was awarded the University Scholarship and Midwest Achievement Award. Morrow is the daughter of James and Glenda Morrow of Jonesboro and will be a 2014 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School. Zachary Harrison of Sikeston, Mo., was awarded the University Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award. Harrison is the son of Christy Fitzgerald and Jeff Harrison of Sikeston, Mo., and will be a 2014 graduate of Sikeston Senior High School. Zachary Meyer of Frohna, Mo., was awarded the University Scholarship. Meyer, the son of John and Diane Meyer of Frohna, will be a 2014 graduate of Perryville High School. Trey Pender of Jonesboro, Ill., was awarded the Midwest Achievement Award. Pender is the son of Shanna and Dale Pender of Jonesboro and will be a 2014 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School.
* Marie Kinder, 18, a Cape Girardeau Central High School student, was named a 2014 Presidential Scholarship finalist at Webster University in Webster Groves, Mo. She is in the running to be one of five students to receive the scholarship, the highest academic award given to a Webster student, which is a comprehensive full-tuition award for outstanding undergraduate students who enroll at Webster as first-time freshmen. Awards for 2014-2015 will be valued at more than $90,000 for four years. Kinder was one of 32 finalists; selection was based upon demonstrated academic excellence, involvement with school and community and capacity for future contributions as a student leader at the university. The final selection of the five Presidential Scholars is expected to be announced Friday.
