  • The Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association will present eight alumni and one faculty member with Merit Awards Oct. 24 during Homecoming. Recipients are: Judith Arnet, 1970, of Columbia, Mo., clinical nutrition manager at Boone Hospital Center; Roberta Broeker, 1980, of Jefferson City, Mo., chief financial officer of the Missouri Department of Transportation; Dr. Stephen Hefner, 1970, of Columbia S.C., superintendent of Richland County School District Two; Lawrence R. Kem, 1956, of Pine Hurst, N.C., retired business executive; Jane (Cooper) Stacy, 1972, of Cape Girardeau, retired director of alumni services and current director of development for special projects for Southeast; John Ueleke, 1968, of Memphis, Tenn., president of Legacy Wealth Management; Dr. Stephen Vaughn, 1968, of Madison, Wis., professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin; and Dr. Vance Watson, 1964, of Starkville, Miss., interim president at Mississippi State University. Dr. Allen Gathman of Pocahontas, professor of biology at Southeast Missouri State University, will receive the Faculty Merit Award.
  • Southeast's Alumni Association will also award Distinguished Service Awards during Homecoming. Recipients will be Gene Bess of Poplar Bluff, Mo., director and head basketball coach at Three Rivers Community College; Neal Boyd of Sikeston, Mo., recent winner of NBC's "America's Got Talent;" and Dr. Jerry Waddle of Cape Girardeau, retired longtime educator.

SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Thirty-five students pursuing health-care careers received a scholarship from the Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation and the Hospital Auxiliary. Students who received awards are: Pamela Forck, Brittany Bohannon, David Gilbertson, Paul Valleroy, Chris Inman, Brad Bohannon, Whitney Ostendorf, Shelly Layton, Maci Boone, Kim Kelley, Jeanette Wickett, Robin Bell, Brittany Dohogne, Laura James, Janice Allen, Amanda Whistler, Amy O'Rear, Valerie Gibbons, Magin Chapman, Mary Beth Corgan, Megan Warner, Gaila Adams, Taylor Myer, Tiffany Myers, Sheila Brown, Sarah Gill, Amanda Roth, Lorrie Sterling, Emily Hoff, Alex Ressel, Anita Smith, Pat Williamson, Kelsey Scheeter, Lisa Kaempfe and Brian Manley.
