American Legion Riders remember local veterans at Christmas
The American Legion Riders of Post 63 will place commemorative wreaths, bearing the insignia for all five branches of military service, at the entrances of two community cemeteries as a remembrance of all deceased veterans in this area. A ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park entrance in Cape Girardeau; the second ceremony will be at 1 p.m. at the Russell Heights Cemetery entrance in Jackson. American Legion Riders plan to conduct similar ceremonies annually to supplement the traditional "Wreaths Across America" program honoring veterans who are buried in national and state cemeteries.
Breakfast and bake sale
A breakfast and bake sale sponsored by the St. Joseph's Men's Club includes sausage, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy, homemade coffee cake, apple butter, orange juice and coffee. Western Catholic Union will match funds raised by the event. Children younger than 5 eat free. The meal and sale will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church Hall in Apple Creek, about 10 miles south of Perryville, Mo.
Breakfast at the Eagles
A breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cape Eagles banquet hall, 321 N. Spring Ave. in Cape Girardeau. Proceeds will benefit the Christmas Baskets project. Call 335-0931 for more information.
The Christmas Story through puppets
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- First Assembly of God, 107 Church St. in Marble Hill will host a special Christmas presentation about the Christmas story. Glenn House holiday tour
The Glenn House in Cape Girardeau will hold a 1 to 4 p.m. holiday tour with a performance by the Dr. Paul Thompson ensemble, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, appearances by Mark Twain and wine tastings.
Oliver House tour features storytelling
Barbara Popp, posing Marie Oliver, the creator of the Missouri state flag and one time resident of the Oliver House will tell stories at the Oliver House in Jackson from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Ongoing tours include historical information about the house and its content, now decked for the holidays in a Victorian style.
