Unifying churches: Lord calls Miami native to preach in Missouri

The Rev. Phillip Trunzo moved to Missouri nine years ago to preach at the Commission Fellowship, 2711 Thomas Drive, Suite 209, from San Diego. Trunzo was initially asked to assist a group of pastors in planting a new church in the area, but the Miami native said he and his family settled in Missouri after falling in love with the community and its people. Trunzo now focuses on unifying all churches, regardless of denomination, through prayer and living according to Christ's teachings not only in church, but in his everyday life.

Question: Why did you choose to pastor in this area?

Answer: The Lord called my family and me to come to Missouri nine years ago to assist another pastor in planting a church. We immediately fell in love with the area and the people here.

Q: Why did you decide to enter the ministry?

A: I decided to devote my life to the ministry because of the love Christ had for me in my own life. Feeling that compelled me to share that love with others.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A: Seeing people transformed by the gospel and watching them grow in Christ.

Q: What has been your greatest achievement since entering the ministry?

A: My greatest achievement is recognizing that I can accomplish nothing without Christ! "Not by power, not by might, but by My spirit, says the Lord." (Zechariah 4:6)

Q: How are you a witness to Christ outside of church?

A: Christianity is not just a weekly event but a lifestyle. To be a living sacrifice means you don't roll off the altar when you feel like it. We need to be his witness everywhere we go.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you face in your job?

A: The biggest challenge I face is uniting the different churches despite denominational differences, so the body of Christ can serve him fully by seeking out the lost, the hurt and broken.

Q: What to you hope people take away from a visit to your church?

A: I hope people come away from our church edified by the Word of God, anchored by their foundation in Christ, and equipped by the Holy Spirit to answer his call.

Q: What is your favorite thing about your church?

A: Even though we are a small church, I love the way that everyone cares for each other and goes out of their way for each other. The love of Christ is felt here.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: It is my prayer, not just for our church but for all the churches to be involved in a great revival in this area to fulfill the great commission.
