Summer is the time to relax, hang out with friends and family, and have fun adventures to tell about when school starts again in August. You don't have to leave Southeast Missouri to find adventure this summer. If you're yearning for adventure or looking for fun places to relax with friends while staying in the area, we've got you covered. Check this spot and check something off your summer bucket list every other week without having to stray too far from home, with tips from Mia Pohlman.
Fun by land or sea
Be a kid again. What's summertime if you can't have fun and be a kid? Give in to the little-kid urge to slide down slides, swing on swings and spin on merry-go-rounds at one of Cape Girardeau's 23 parks. After that, watch a baseball game or go fishing at Capaha Park. Find park locations online at cityofcapegirardeau.org. If it's too hot, you can take to the wet slides or relax on the lazy river at Cape Splash. Grab an inner tube and let all your cares float away as you float down the 700-foot lazy river. To step things up, try out the water slides, swirl pool and swimming pool. The park is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Sept. 5. Admission is $6 for those 14 and older and $5 for those 13 and younger or 60 and older. Call 339-6343 for more information.
