Happy holidays, everyone! This has to be the best time of the year for style. Everyone decides to spruce up their homes and their wardrobes for holiday parties and family gatherings. Cape Girardeau practically turns into a Hallmark card. Let's not forget Jackson's beautiful historic uptown, where I grew up. Everyone is festive and showing off their best looks of the season.
Since Buy the River highlights local boutiques and shops, I reached out to two of our town's sophisticated shop owners, Deb Maevers and Laurie Everett, to give their advice on what makes their shop and products sparkle.
__Q: What is a cute holiday outfit you would put together that can be found at Pastimes?__
__A:__ A vintage 1960s dress with a modern red sweater shawl, matched with vintage tall boots, a vintage red purse and vintage leather gloves. Don't forget the Christmas-tree pin!
__Q: What is your biggest seller during the Christmas season?__
__A:__ Lots of jewelry and accessories sell this time of year, and anything that sparkles!
__Q: What is the best way you would sparkle up a party look between now and New Year's?__
__A:__ I love adding a huge rhinestone brooch or chandelier earrings to vamp up an outfit for holiday parties. I also always add one vintage piece, whether it's a clutch, sassy hat or some 1940s heels.
__Q: Laurie, I am so excited for your new venture, Mother Earth. Your antique store has always had a certain touch that exudes sophistication with an eclectic charm. What has been your biggest inspiration when decorating this store?__
__A:__ My inspiration for Mother Earth is all things Bohemian. My style is very eclectic and at times a bit unusual, and I wanted to bring all things I love into one location: plants, essential oils, clothing and some vintage items thrown in the mix. I wanted it to be very curated and hand-picked.
