"The year 2011 marks the 20th year in which Cape Walmart has held the annual shopping event called Shop with a Hero," store manager Gary Elders said. Walmart Foundation, local Walmart associates, heroes such as police officers, firefighters and first responders along with community partners help raise close to $8,000 to allow 78 children selected from local schools to spend $100 each. "It's tough for anyone to select who gets to shop this year with so many parents out of work and charities having less funds to spread around to the needy," said Valerie Wondrick, Shop with a Hero event coordinator. "We're just thankful for our partners in the community who gave so generously."
