Here's a classic science experiment named for René Descartes that will wow your friends. All you need are a few things from around the house.
Ingredients
2-liter bottle with cap
Eye-dropper
Water
Instructions
STEP 1: Completely fill the 2 liter bottle with water. Fill the eye-dropper 2/3 full of water.
STEP 2: Place the eye-dropper into the 2 liter bottle and screw on the cap. NOTE: Make sure the eye-dropper is floating before you screw on the cap.
STEP 3: Squeeze the sides of the bottle and watch what happens.
Explanation
As you squeeze the bottle you increase pressure, which reduces the size of the bubble in the eye-dropper. When this happens the eye-dropper becomes less buoyant and sinks.
KFVS12 and the Southeast Missourian are teaming up for science. Every Tuesday you'll find an experiment from the KFVS Heartland Science Lab in the Class of 2morrow section of the Southeast Missourian. Grab the ingredients and join KFVS science reporter Jason Lindsey live on KFVS at 5 p.m. every Wednesday. More science experiences can be found at www.kfvs12.com and www.semissourian.com.
