Everybody knows what happens when you add a flame to a balloon: BANG! But, what happens when you add a little water to your balloon and then the flame? Here's an experiment that might get you and your family hooked on science.

Ingredients

  • Candle n Several balloons
  • Matches n Water

STEP 1: Fill one of the balloons with air and tie it off. Using the matches light the candle and place the balloon in the flame.

STEP 2: Fill a different balloon with water. Add a little air and tie it off. Using the matches light the candle and once again place the balloon in the flame.

Explanation

The balloon with water did not pop because the water soaked up the heat. The heat energy quickly passed through the balloon and heated the water on the inside.
