Bible study program sets fall schedule

Several Stoncroft non-denominational Bible studies are being offered. These studies are done in a small, informal setting and are open to all.

* For women, Jan Petzolt will guide "Genesis 3" on Monday mornings at the Jackson Public Library. Monday evenings Linda Blakenship will host a series on Psalms. Call 243-7596 for the location. Also on Monday evenings, Joyce Loos will guide a study titled "What is God Like?" Call 243-4352 for the location. On Wednesday mornings, Ruth Maevers and Joan Battle will study Mark at the bowling alley in Jackson. Janie Cox will lead the study on Phillippians Wednesday evenings; for location call 243-1573. Pat Renner is starting a new group at the Cape Senior Center studying the Holy Spirit.

* For men and women, Ron Hitt is guiding a group as they study Genesis. For location call 243-4213. Nick Leist and Tim Schwent are guiding a group in the study of Mark on Wednesday evening. For location call 243-3740. Fritz Sander is guiding a men's group during the lunch hour studying James. Call 243-2367 for date and location.

* Mary Ann Depender is leading a group, "What is God Like?", at the Heartland Rehab Center and Pat Renner is guiding "Where is the Holy Spirit?" at the Cape Girardeau County Jail.

Thursday

An informational meeting of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Osage Community Centre. The Lutheran Free Church believes the Bible is the revealed word of God and that the congregation is best suited to do God's work. A representative of the AFLC will be present to share information and answer questions about "renewing the Reformation."

Saturday

The youth at First Christian Church, 2411 Abbey Road, will have a garage sale beginning at 7 a.m. today at the church. Proceeds will go toward the youth mission trip next summer.

Sunday

"Free Ride" is the theme for this year's areawide women's conference sponsored by New Direction Women's Ministry of Jackson First General Baptist Church, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., today in the church activity center.

St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, 516 North St. in Cape Girardeau, will observe its 143rd anniversary at the 11 a.m. service today, Guest speaker will be the Rev. Erven Wren of Champaign, Ill., a native of Cape Girardeau. Dinner will follow morning worship. At 3 p.m. a special musical celebration is scheduled.

Bishop Woodie White, bishop-in-residence at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Ga., will be the speaker at 3 p.m., today at the annual Old McKendree Day service at the historic chapel on Bainbridge Road in Jackson.

Emanuel United Church of Christ, 304 E. Adams St. in Jackson, will have a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Proceeds go to renovate the parsonage.

Father's Arms Fellowship in Scott City welcomes the Ministry of Jonathan Schauer and Paul Favors at 6 p.m. at the church 1400 Main St. in Scott City.
