The following local churches have upcoming vacation Bible schools:

St. Andrew Lutheran Church: 9 a.m. to noon June 19 through 23, for ages 3 through 5th grade. Register by calling 334-3200.

Local churches celebrate in Caruthersville

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- On Sunday, Episcopal congregation from Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Mo., Farmington, Mo., and Poplar Bluff, Mo., will gather at 4 p.m.in Caruthersville for a "Celebration of Hope" ceremony for the community devastated by a recent tornado. The event is being held by St. Luke's and St. John's Church in Caruthersville, which was demolished by the tornado, and is coordinated by the Rev. Bob Towner with Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau. There will be food, music and a service on the grounds of the church, at 110 W. 19th St. in Caruthersville.

First Christian youth on a mission to South Dakota

Youths with First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau will participate in a weeklong service mission experience to help the residents of Standing Rock Reservation in McLaughlin, S.D. During the week of July 2, the young people will participate in the Group Workcamp, sponsored by Group Workcamps Foundation of Loveland, Colo. Camp participants provide their own expenses and transportationto the camp. The youths will participate in community care and ministry projects, which could range from repairing a roof to siding a home. For more information, contact Barbara Breedon at 651-2279.
