POETRY CORNER: OLD WOMAN

Old women,

face drawn up,

wrinkled

A life of frugality as

her mother taught ...

sewing and canning.

Even in her old age

she set out a garden.

Even with an eye operation,

in her old age,

she stitched her clothing by hand.

Old woman,

how do you do it,

I asked?

I had a mother who

expected it of me,

she said.
