With 58 years of experience in the pest control industry, Cape Kil Pest Control is dedicated to keeping your home insect free.
Located at 33 N. Frederick St., Cape Kil is a residential and commercial pest management service. Some of the services they specialize in include termite management, general pest management, integrated pest management and retail pest management products for home, school and business. Cape Kil is also your bedbug information center.
Bedbugs have migrated to the Heartland. Cape Kil is concerned about the developing infestation and plans to educate the public concerning this pest. Its goal is to teach the customer how to reduce the chance of infestation. Cape Kil owner Elizabeth Knote has received specialized training in the elimination of these pests at Purdue University and the National Pest Management Association Conference for the past six years.
"Bedbugs can create great hardships on people," Knote said. "Sometimes homeowners have to throw away their mattresses and box springs to control this 21st-century pest. That's why knowledge is the best prevention for a catastrophic loss."
Knote is a graduate of Purdue University, with a bachelor's in chemical engineering. She has been attending the university's Pest Management Conference for 26 years. In fact, all of the friendly staff members at Cape Kil have been trained at the university. In 1987, Knote won first place in insect identification at both the Missouri and Illinois statewide pest management meetings.
Cape Kil takes a scientific approach to pest management. You might even say they are in the business of building a better mousetrap. The "Maj-Ik-Box" bait station, invented by Charles Knote, is a way of controlling mouse infestations without the problems associated with indoor traps. The tamper-resistant bait station contains poison that prevents the mouse from entering the home. It is designed so that children, pets and wildlife cannot reach the bait.
For the last two years, Knote has directed the pest management part of the KC-CERT. Asthma Study in Kansas City, Mo. In one test home, the owner caught 54 mice in her garage during 2004. After the "Maj-Ik-Box System" was installed, the homeowner did not catch a single mouse during the entire year of 2005.
