Nashville, Tenn., may officially be the Music City, but Cape Girardeau will hold its own in the smaller market this weekend. From old favorites to new acts, local stages will be busy today through Sunday.

Well Hungarians will perform at 8:30 p.m. today at the Pink Galleon. The group plays its country hits around St. Louis and will make the drive down today to entertain the straight country crowd in Southeast Missouri.

The band -- five dudes from St. Louis and Southern Illinois -- has been voted Best Country Group of the Year by magazines like the Hollywood-based New Music Weekly Magazine in 2006 and by Riverfront Times in St. Louis again and again since 2004.

The band has two albums out, featuring songs like "Diamonds and Love" about love and life changing over time or "Sorry 'Bout the Mess" about how life can get messy.

Rhymer's will celebrate surviving one year in business in Cape Girardeau this weekend. The bar held its grand opening in July 2009. It has built a loyal customer base that shows up to watch Cardinals baseball games, listen to bands and drink beer (yum!).

For its paper anniversary Saturday, the establishment has invited one of its favorite bands, The Intention, to entertain the masses. Reps from Schlafly and Boulevard will give tastings during part of the evening, and Bayou Bar and Grill will bring food. Tickets, which should be purchased in person by today, are $10 and stand a good chance of selling out.

Those who stay in Jackson on Saturday night can head to Stooges for local favorites The Melroys.

To finish the weekend, "American Idol" alumna Lacey Brown will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday during the Cape First Remix at Cape First Church. Brown reached the top 12 in the most recent season of the Fox singing contest. With pastors for parents, she grew up singing in church and has stayed true to her roots in her career post-Idol. Her concert at Cape First will echo her beliefs about God and Christ.
