Midwest Neurosurgeons' fundraiser consisting of $5 being donated for each "like" received on its new Facebook page throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It was called "Like"=Life. The grand total came to be 325 new "likes" that added up to $1,625, which was donated at noon Nov. 2. The donation was given specifically to breast cancer research within the American Cancer Society. Dr. Sonjay Fonn made a point to keep the money funding medical research to help local women. Fonn, right, of Midwest Neurosurgeons hands the check to Sheri House of the American Cancer Society.

US Bank donated $1,200 to Southeast Missouri Food Bank. US Bancorp Foundation donates to organizations that offer support to programs that improve the educational and economic opportunities of low and moderate income families. Saint Francis assists hospital employees in Joplin, Mo.

The Missouri Hospital Association recognized Saint Francis Medical Center for its contributions to the HERO (Hospital Employee Relief Operation) fund following the May tornado that destroyed St. John's Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Organizations and individuals that raised $1,000 or more for the HERO fund were honored with the award. Saint Francis contributed $5,000 to the fund. More than $455,000 has been distributed to 730 hospital employees who were affected by one of the natural disasters in Missouri in 2011. Funds go to help hospital employees who are full- or part-time Missouri hospital employees significantly affected by this year's disasters and who live in one of the FEMA-designated counties.
