Thursday marks the 11th annual V-Day, bringing attention to injustice and violence against women worldwide, and March 8, is National Women's Day. Two events Thursday aim to celebrate and call attention to these days.
Students and community members will perform "The Vagina Monologues" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Rose Theatre on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. The show, made up of a series of monologues and small group performances, was written by Eve Ensler after she conducted interviews with hundreds of women to get their personal experiences and points of view.
In honor of International Women's Day, Town Plaza will show "A Powerful Noise," a documentary that highlights the role that women play in bringing lasting solutions to global poverty and will be followed by a town-hall discussion with humanitarian experts and activists broadcast live from New York City. The film will start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
