Claire Hamlin, 15, of Sikeston, Missouri, was chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Junior Teen Pageant to be held June 25 and 26 at the Holiday Inn Expo Center in Columbia, Missouri. Hamlin is a freshman at Sikeston High School and is the daughter of Terry and Kristy Hamlin of Sikeston.
Five area students were awarded scholarships to assist with the cost of attendance at Southeast Missouri State University in the fall.
Bailey Watkins of Jackson and Jordan Gilliland of Millersville were awarded the Residence Life Leadership Award. Watkins, the daughter of WM and Vikki Watkins of Jackson, will be a 2016 graduate of Jackson High School. Gilliland, the son of Brian and Jennifer Gilliland of Millersville, will be a 2016 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
Taylor Shivelbine of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. Shivelbine, the daughter of Bill Shivelbine of Cape Girardeau, will be a 2016 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.
Hannah Scherer of Oran, Missouri, and Anne-Marie Schlegel of Jackson were awarded the University Scholarship. Scherer, the daughter of Chris and Susan Scherer of Oran, will be a 2016 graduate of Oran High School. Schlegel will be a 2016 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the daughter of Matthew and Kristen Schlegel of Jackson.
