Sander a semifinalist in state geographic bee

Joshua Sander, a sixth-grader at Cape Christian School, was named a semifinalist in the 2007 Missouri Geographic Bee. Sander is one of 100 students who will compete at the state level. The Missouri Geographic Bee will be held at Columbia College in Columbia on March 30. The state winner will represent Missouri in the national finals at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., in May.

• Jessica Popp of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a Missouri Leadership Award and a Girl's State Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, Popp is the daughter of Joe and Abby Popp.

• Barbara Egbert, a kindergarten teacher at Franklin Elementary School, has been named a state finalist for the 2006 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the nation's highest honor for elementary and secondary educators.
