SIKESTON, Mo. -- Tickets are available for the June 1 concert by Kenny Rogers to benefit Sikeston's Kenny Rogers Children's Center.
The 7 p.m. concert at the Sikeston Field House will feature a performance by Sikeston native Anna Catherine DeHart with Steve Hornbeak and the Main Street Players.
Sikeston resident Tom Nunnelee recalled the day in 1977 when country music legend Kenny Rogers first heard about efforts to fund a center in Sikeston where children with disabilities could receive treatment.
Rogers was so enthusiastic about the services the center would provide, he became personally involved, Nunnelee said. It is an involvement that over the years has brought him back to Sikeston to help the center that now bears his name.
"His longtime tour manager told me he talks about this place all the time," Nunnelee said.
Tickets are $40 for seating on the main floor, with bleacher seats costing $25 each.
Tickets may be purchased online at facebook.com/kennyrogersconcert2014 or at kennyrogerscenter.org, then clicking on events and Kenny Rogers Benefit Concert, by calling 1-888-695-0888 or at the Kenny Rogers Children's Center, 300 Floyd Ave. in Sikeston. On May 31 and June 1, tickets will be sold at the box office of the Sikeston Field House.
