Cancer update topic of seminar for nurses

Diagnosis, treatment and care of cancer patients from a nursing perspective is the topic of today's annual Cancer Update to be held at Drury Lodge.

The program, sponsored by the Regional Cancer Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital and the American Cancer Society, begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.

The meeting is appropriate for hospital staff nurses, doctors' office staff, home health agency nurses and hospice planners and student nurses. The program is approved for six credit hours by the Missouri Nurses Association.

Walkers neeed for area MS Society benefit

With each step they take, volunteers can help raise money for multiple sclerosis research and programs during the MS Walk April 14. The local walk will be held at Arena Park, with pre-registration at noon and the walk at 1 p.m.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system that is usually diagnosed between age 30 and 40.

The benefit walk will help raise money to fight the disease. All proceeds will be used by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Walkers can take pledges for their participation in the local walk. The route is a two-mile loop along the city's recreation trail, accessible to wheelchairs.

There will be a barbecue meal and prizes for all participants.
