Licensed Practical Nurses seminar planned Nov. 15
The Missouri League for Nursing Inc. will sponsor a workshop Nov. 15 on assessment skills for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) at Southeast Missouri Hospital's Generations Center. Instructors will be either Patricia Jentsch of Lincoln University or Pati Cox, a coordinator of practical nursing at Rolla Technical Center.
Certificates will be awarded to participants. Cost is $75 for league members and $105 for non-members. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. For information, call (573) 635-5355.
Vickie Underwood joins staff at St. Francis
Vickie L. Underwood has been appointed director of patient care for orthopedics, neurosciences, pediatrics, rehabilitation and pain management at St. Francis Medical Center.
Underwood previously owned a consulting firm in Tennessee and was director of neurosciences at a Knoxville, Tenn., hospital.
Phlebotomist course to be offered this month
Southeast Missouri Hospital will offer a one-month phlebotomist course beginning Monday at the hospital's College of Nursing. The course will meet from 3-6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 28. Fee is $100.
Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood from a patient's vein. Phelbotomists work in a variety of health care fields, including physicians' offices, laboratories and blood and dialysis centers.

Doctor elected president of optometric association
Dr. Kyle E. Brost, an optometrist, recently became president of the Missouri Optometric Association.
Brost is the 76th president for the group, which includes optometrists and technicians in Missouri. Brost is a member of the advisory board of the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry. He has been a member of the Missouri Optometric Association for five years. He has been practicing optometry for 14 years.
