  • Practical solutions for caregivers: 1 to 3 p.m. at Madison Medical Center in Fredericktown, Mo. The Alzheimer's Association of St. Louis will present a workshop that covers developing a care plan, finding resources and the practical "how-to"s of caring for a person with dementia. Program helps caregivers find resources and assistance in caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Registration is required. To register, call 800-980-9080.

Monday

  • Breast-feeding class: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Francis Medical Center. For expecting parents (in their eighth or ninth month) who plan to breast-feed. Topics are breast physiology, milk production, positioning, diet, pumping and storing breast milk. Call 877-231-2229 to register.

  • Breast-feeding class: 3 to 4:30 p.m. in meeting room 108 at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Topics include the benefits and techniques of breast-feeding, family involvement and support. Seating is limited. Register by calling 651-5825.
  • Back surgery: When is it the right choice?: 6:30 p.m. in Southeast Missouri Hospital's Harrison Room. The program is a presentation of all options for those considering back surgery. Before having surgery learn about artificial disc replacement, no-hospitalization/band-aid microdiscectomy and other minimally-invasive techniques. Seating is limited. Register by calling 651-5825.
  • Bosom Buddies: 6:30 p.m. at HealthPoint Plaza. Open to all women who have or have had breast cancer.
  • Preparation for childbirth class: 5:30 to 9 p.m. in Saint Francis Medical Center. Guide to expected bodily changes, labor signs and stages, pain control techniques and basic infant care. Tips on relaxing, positioning and breathing will also be discussed. Refreshments will be provided. Bring the "Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting Kit" provided by your physician's office.   • Breast-feeding support group: 10 to 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Family BirthPlace. Designed to help the mother with breast-feeding after her discharge from the hospital. A certified lactation consultant will lead group members in sharing breast-feeding techniques and to encourage confidence in their skills. Call 877-231-2229 to register.
