Missouri League for Nursing Offers Seminar on Depression

"Depression: The Black Cloud that Does Not Go Away" is the title of a workshop sponsored by the Missouri League for Nursing. The seminar is offered across the state, and will be held April 13 at Twin Rivers Regional Hospital in Kennett, Mo., and April 14 at Southeast Missouri Hospital's Harrison Room at Cape Girardeau.

Workshop presenters are Carolyn Spradlin, program manager for nursing homes, and Janice Steiger, a registered pharmacist.

Turning Point: A Series for Breast Cancer Survivors starts Tuesday

A new series of programs from Tuesday through May 16 is available for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer within the past year. Women will find allies and support.

The series is offered free through funding from the Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation. Participants will receive a six-month membership to Health Point Fitness Center and a personal fitness assessment with appropriate exercise prescriptions.

Programs will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness Center. Topics will include motivation, journaling, spirituality, cooking, nutrition, energy conservation, exercise, healing, looking good and feeling better. To register, call 651-5825.

Old Enough to Stay Alone program starts Wednesday

Free program for children and parents, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Mary Gosche, human development specialist from the University of Missouri Extension Center will prepare children for situations they may encounter on their way home from school or when they are at home without their parents. Registration is required at 651-5825.

Glide Your Way to Fitness classes offered

Participants who glide use round discs under their feet for core, flexibility and strength training. The glide workout is offered throughout April on Sundays at 6 p.m., except Easter, at the Main Street Fitness Center in Jackson. To register, call 243-2211.

Boot camp offered at Main Street Fitness

For a workout like no other, during April the Main Street Fitness Center in Jackson will offer a boot camp. The intense class is designed to resemble a military workout and is gauged for the more advanced participant. Classes are at 5:30 p.m. every Monday. To register, call 243-2211.

Pilates classes offered at Main Street Fitness throughout April
