Southeast Missouri Hospital surgeon wins state award

Southeast Missouri Hospital cardiac and vascular surgeon Randy G. Brown received the 2006 Missourian Award at an annual dinner in Jefferson City in October. The Missourian Award is an acknowledgment of the most accomplished citizens in Missouri, including past recipients Harry S. Truman, Jack Buck, Walter Cronkite, Walt Disney and Sam Walton. The award honors individuals who have gone above and beyond for the betterment of community and state. Brown was nominated by Kim Inman, the daughter of one of Brown's patients.

Flu shots available at Saint Francis Medical Center for $25

Saint Francis Medical Center will offer flu shots for a limited time on the first floor of the Health and Wellness Center. Flu shots will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday. The shots are $25 each, and the cost cannot be billed to insurance or Medicare. No appointment is necessary, but please call Eileen Sievers at 331-5316 to reserve a dose of vaccine.

Medicare counseling available at Southeast Missouri Hospital

Representatives from CLAIM will be available for free, confidential and unbiased health insurance counseling of Medicare recipients from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital. The representatives will help those who need assistance with signing up for a plan or have questions concerning their current plans. Please bring medications and pharmacy information. To make an appointment to meet with the free Missouri Medicare and Insurance Counseling Program, call Southeast Missouri Hospital's Generations Center at 651-5825.
