Miki Gudermuth, executive director of SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, received a lifetime achievement award and a resolution from the Missouri Senate at the Illinois Summit gathering in St. Charles, Mo. Gudermuth, who contracted polio at age nine months, formed SADI in 1983 out of a support group for post-polio syndrome. Gudermuth ran the group from her dining room, seeing the need to support individuals with disabilities in Southeast Missouri. She eventually moved SADI out of house and into its own location in Cape Girardeau that has grown into a center with four different locations, more than 140 employees and offering 11 distinct services. SADI serves up to 6,000 consumers per year throughout Southeast Missouri.
