Vincentian Marian Youth's Operation Overhaul in Springfield, Mo., lasted June 14 to 20. They stayed in the Catholic Campus Ministry building by the Missouri State University Campus in Springfield. Thirty-eight students, young adults and adults from the Cape Girardeau area attended the event. The students built a ramp for an elderly woman in a wheelchair, enabling her to get in and out of her house to visit the hospital or attend functions. The group also doctored many other houses and porches in need by intense cleaning, yard work, painting, installing a linoleum floor, power washing siding, replacing windows and building a fence. The VMY students organized a carnival for the neighborhood that included bingo, a ring toss, washers game, face painting, cotton candy, snow cones, hot dogs, clowns, jump roping, live music, hula hoops, grab bags and a cake walk.
