The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Cape Girardeau County will take place June 13, and team registration is open at relayforlife.org/capemo. Relay For Life is an overnight event that mobilizes communities to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost and raise money for the fight against cancer. Survivors and cancer patients, caregivers, families, businesses, civic organizations and the public are invited to take part in this team event. Relay For Life of Cape Girardeau County takes place from noon to midnight June 13 at Arena Park. More information is available by calling 573-334-9352.

Marketeers Club begins Saturday at farmers market

The Cape Marketeers Club on Saturday will begin its third year at the Cape Riverfront Market with an activity titled "If It's Green It's Good" to the benefits of eating green vegetables. The Marketeers Club, a free educational program for children ages 5 through 12, takes place from 8 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturdays May through August. It emphasizes the importance of fresh, local food and teaches about nutrition, science and growing food through hands-on demonstrations and activities. Participants $2 in tokens to purchase fruits and vegetables at the market. Children and their parents/guardians may visit the information tent to register. Magnolia Manor to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Magnolia Manor, a post-bellum manor situated in Cairo, Illinois, will host a luncheon on Tuesday -- Cinco de Mayo. The menu will include chicken enchilada casserole, Spanish rice, garden salad and chocolate fudge pie. Reservations may be made by calling 618-734-0201. The manor has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since Dec. 17, 1969.

Scrapbook session scheduled Saturday

A scrapbooking session will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital. Admission is a $5 donation, with proceeds aiding the SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary in its support of the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries' project on epilepsy. Yard sale to benefit food pantry

Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation will most a yard sale May 28, 29 and 30 to benefit the Catholic Social Mininstry food pantry. Donated yard-sale items may be delivered to the St. Mary Cathedral School gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 26 and 27.

Help in paying for prescriptions

Information from the state of Missouri indicates there are an estimated 2,063 people in Cape Girardeau County who are eligible for assistance from the federal government in paying for Medicare prescription drugs. The Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging has staff who can help people enroll. Income guidelines for a single person are $1,471 monthly with assets (not including your home or car) of $13,440.00 or less; for a married couple $1,991 monthly with assets of $26,860.00 or less. Cooking demonstration scheduled May 18

Mexican cuisine will be the focus of a cooking demonstration by HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers from 6 to 7:15 p.m. May 18 at HealthPoint Fitness. Hospital junior volunteer sign-up underway

Registration is open for students, ages 14 to 18, who wish to participate in the Southeast Hospital Junior Volunteer program. The program provides a way to help others and gives students a first-hand look at health-care careers. Registration deadline is May 22, and orientation sessions will be in early June. We-Can Weekend set for cancer patients

SoutheastHEALTH's annual We-Can Weekend retreat for cancer patients and their families will be May 29 to 31 at the Sunnen Center, bordering Sunnen Lake at the YMCA of the Ozarks near Potosi, Missouri. There is a requested $50 registration fee per family, which includes the cost of lodging and meals. The fee is refunded shortly after the conclusion of the weekend.
