Two classes to help quit smoking or cease chewing tobacco will be held at the Osage Centre. One session will be a 6 p.m. Monday, and a second session will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The classes, which are free, are led by Debbie Leoni, a certified wellness coach and smoking cessation facilitator. Saint Francis Medical Center on Thursday will provide free lung cancer screenings to people ages 50 to 74 who are heavy smokers, former smokers or otherwise at risk. High-risk patients will be screened using low-radiation CT scan technology and notified of the results within one week. No preparation is required, but patients must be preregistered. The Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a linen sale from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the lower elevator level of the center. Available will be used blankets, sheets, pillowcases, towels, footies, pads, gowns, etc. at discounted prices. All items have been thoroughly laundered.
Fitness Plus is teaming up with the Arthritis Foundation to raise funds for research and awareness by sponsoring the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis, a 5K run, 1 - mile walk and Santa Chase at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday-themed costumes. Walkers are welcome to walk either inside or out. Registration forms are available at the Fitness Plus service desk. Those preregistered by Friday will save $5; same-day, on-site registration will be from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Registration includes free pancake breakfast after the run.
