The Cape Girardeau Civil War Roundtable will have its annual Christmas party and will elect officers at its meeting at 1 p.m. today at Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The club will elect a new president, vice president, secretary/treasurer and two board members. A raffle will be held to help raise funds for the club. While Civil War-related items are preferred, anything is welcome.
A free Zumba session will be paired with a holiday food drive from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 4H Building, which is next to the Arena Building at 321 Jaycee Drive in Cape Girardeau. The session will include Christmas songs, and participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation. Zumba is a Latin-dance-style based workout. On Tuesday, 10 percent of all sales generated at the Gordonville Grill, 829 State Highway Z in Gordonville, will be donated to support River City Workers for the Blind. A screening of the movie "War Room" will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 27 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 804 N. Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau. A light dinner will be served at 5 p.m. in the fellowship room.
The Resolution Walk/Run will step off at 10 a.m. New Year's Day, Jan. 1, in Arena Park in Cape Girardeau. The event, which includes runs of 5K, 10K, one mile and a fun run, is a fundraiser for myTEAM TRIUMPH of Southeast Missouri. The routes begin at the 4H Building and extend within Arena Park and the adjoining trail. More information about the race and registration fee is available at the events page of mtt-semo.org. Registered participants will receive a knit cap and soup bowl, and a Chick-fil-A soup lunch will follow the event for all participants.
The Jackson Knights of Columbus will host a euchre tournament at 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 3305 N. High St. in Jackson. Subsequent tourneys will held Feb. 7 and March 6. Registration is at noon, with play beginning promptly at 1 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a partner. Cost is $10 per person and 25 cents per euchre to pot.
